Are you looking for a big Chinese New Year party to take the family to this year? See the list below for some of the biggest and best Chinese New Year parties this year. United States- New York City: The Chinese New Year Spectacular at Radio City Music Hall, 2/14-2/17. This is put on by NTDTV. They have similiar shows in other cities, including Lost Angeles, Ottawa, Montreal, Toronto, Philadelphia, Washington DC, Houston, Dallas, Boston and Atlanta. We haven't been, but the videos on the website look amazing! For even more going on in New York (and much of it free), see About.com's listing .
- San Francisco: Southwest Airlines Chinese New Year Festival and Parade , 2/10-3/4. Apparently San Francisco has teamed up with Southwest Airlines. You'll have to check out the rather extensive schedule, including the Miss Chinatown USA Pageant, Concerts, Carnival and Run/Walk events.
- Los Angeles: Golden Dragon Parade and Festival , 2/24. The website still shows tenative, but we are sure it is happening (it is LA, right?). An Imperial Banquet is also planned for 3/9.
- Dallas: For teachers interested in learning more about chun lian (couplets) used during Chinese New Year, check out the session sponsored by the Crow Collection of Asian Art on 1/18. For all ages, check out the Chinese New Year program at the Carrollton Library, sponsored by the library and the Sun Ray Chinese School, 2/18.
- Minneapolis: The Chinese American Student Association of U of Minnesota is holding a Chinese New Year party on 1/28. They are looking for volunteers to help out.
- Wisconsin: Join the Northeast Wisconsin Chinese Association and the Northeast Wisconsin FCC for a New Year Celebration , 1/28.
- Seattle's Chinatown will host its Year of the Pig celebration on 2/17.
- Honolulu's Chinatown will feature a free Chinese New Year Festival on 2/2-3 and 2/9/10. We wish we could celebrate there!
- Austin: Great Wall of China's Adoption Culture Club is hosting a Chinese New Year dinner on 2/18 from 4 to 7 pm at Chopsticks Restaurant on Airport Blvd. Cost is $10 for ages 12 and up, $5 for children 7-11 and FREE for children 6 and under.
- Vancouver: Chinese New Year Parade on first Sunday of the Lunar New Year (2/19?) in Chinatown. Also, visit the Chinese New Year event at the Dr. Sun Yat Sen Chinese Garden on 2/18. And for something completely different, you can go to the Toddish McWong's Robbie Burns Chinese New Year Dinner on 1/28 (seriously).
- London, Trafalgar Square, Chinese New Year Celebration, 2/18. The British Airways site has info. The Chinataown UK site isn't updated yet, but maybe they will soon!
- Melbourne celebrates with the FCA Chinese New Year Festival on 2/17-18.
- Syndey residents can check out the official Year of the Pig City of Sydney page for a list of events.
- Hong Kong's Chinese New Year Parade is one of the first from 1/29-31 at the Wan Chai Harbourfront.
- Singapore: The Chinese New Year Light Up will be going on from 1/27 to 3/4 this year. It includes a Chingay parade tradition over 100 years old.
